This is right after I got it booting from a CF card for the first time, but before I have added any sound cards. So this is what Secret of Monkey Island sounds like on PC Speaker.</video:description><video:content_loc>https://woodland.video/static/streaming-playlists/hls/97592df3-add3-4c2e-b532-7097feb556c2/d6b21a5f-1186-46dc-bc14-5adbc165f5db-master.m3u8</video:content_loc><video:player_loc>https://woodland.video/videos/embed/jFYgyEaEa8s2V8CtUkAZiC</video:player_loc><video:duration>28</video:duration><video:rating>0</video:rating><video:view_count>9</video:view_count><video:publication_date>2023-07-30T20:25:49.788Z</video:publication_date><video:tag>monkey island</video:tag><video:tag>pc speaker</video:tag><video:tag>pentium ii</video:tag><video:tag>dos</video:tag><video:family_friendly>YES</video:family_friendly><video:uploader info="https://woodland.video/c/retrocomputing/videos">Autumn's Retro Computing</video:uploader><video:live>NO</video:live></video:video></url><url><loc>https://woodland.video/w/oVvG5WcZo142FfaYog8z1g</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://woodland.video/lazy-static/thumbnails/b5981b4f-a6b4-4add-9351-6a01ffd958bb.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Reunion with the Gravis Ultrasound</video:title><video:description>It's been around twenty years since I've heard my old music playing on original hardware, and it feels a little emotional. This cranky old Pentium II is booting from a CF card now, and one of the Gravis Ultrasound boards I saved from back then still works like a charm.

It's a way different experience, wrapped up in tactile memory, than running it all in an emulator.

The song playing here is my entry from the demo scene's Music Contest III in 1995.</video:description><video:content_loc>https://woodland.video/static/streaming-playlists/hls/b9a1c4a4-6b93-4e87-b62e-8d9fc32ba4fb/26d29564-c602-432c-9596-c7c405cfca70-master.m3u8</video:content_loc><video:player_loc>https://woodland.video/videos/embed/oVvG5WcZo142FfaYog8z1g</video:player_loc><video:duration>144</video:duration><video:rating>0</video:rating><video:view_count>38</video:view_count><video:publication_date>2023-07-30T20:54:02.539Z</video:publication_date><video:tag>gravis ultrasound</video:tag><video:tag>scream tracker 3</video:tag><video:tag>s3m</video:tag><video:tag>dos</video:tag><video:family_friendly>YES</video:family_friendly><video:uploader info="https://woodland.video/c/retrocomputing/videos">Autumn's Retro Computing</video:uploader><video:live>NO</video:live></video:video></url><url><loc>https://woodland.video/w/iGSPEo2YQQLMquMnpYAZfq</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://woodland.video/lazy-static/thumbnails/2e17f444-6026-4a4c-9049-b8f3ed31d6d9.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Autumn's Commodore 128 Restoration</video:title><video:description>This Commodore 128 was my very first computer. I've held on to it this whole time since 1986 while using a parade of ever-newer computers over the decades. This one holds a special place in my nostalgic heart that none of the others quite match.

After 35 years, it's rightly an antique, and it needed some love to bring it back to good working order. This is a 5-minute quick look at the restoration process, including cleaning, recapping, and replacing the audio chip. This isn't meant as a full how-to — just a quick overview for anyone curious about the process.

At this rate, the next overhaul won't be due until the year 2056. :)

For those considering a similar project, I'll recommend the classic computer recap kits from console5.com. They saved me the hassle of digging through the parts lists and putting together a DigiKey order.

The retrobrite solution is just warm water, hydrogen peroxide, and OxiClean, left out in the sun for a few hours of UV energy. The jury is still out as to how long it will last before yellowing again, but it's so much better than it was before that I'd put up with having to do it again several years down the line if needed.

I've already imaged all of my old floppy disks, so my next project for the Commodore will be to hook up a Pi1541 or SD2IEC for access to those disk images, plus a wireless modem to let it talk to the rest of the modern world. I may also hook it back up to the MIDI rack in the music studio to use it as a hardware SID synth.</video:description><video:content_loc>https://woodland.video/static/streaming-playlists/hls/8f606d93-ed35-45d1-886d-8d7a69e63238/3e71b267-5f49-4f2f-927f-8b761d5403f7-master.m3u8</video:content_loc><video:player_loc>https://woodland.video/videos/embed/iGSPEo2YQQLMquMnpYAZfq</video:player_loc><video:duration>297</video:duration><video:rating>0</video:rating><video:view_count>9</video:view_count><video:publication_date>2023-08-01T01:43:32.740Z</video:publication_date><video:family_friendly>YES</video:family_friendly><video:uploader info="https://woodland.video/c/retrocomputing/videos">Autumn's Retro Computing</video:uploader><video:live>NO</video:live></video:video></url><url><loc>https://woodland.video/w/8Y4GCzSRu2sw6yo91u2wQ5</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://woodland.video/lazy-static/thumbnails/f16d1389-afe5-4cb3-a7c8-38d765f620ef.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Sprout24 CPU Update: Control Unit and Interrupts</video:title><video:description>I'm making more progress on my homebrew CPU project — the pesky interrupt bugs are finally squashed, and it's time to start turning the emulated control unit into the next piece of real hardware.

It's early in the afternoon of Woodward Dream Cruise 2024 and downtown Ferndale is bustling with folks watching the classic cars. There aren't too many of those out right now, though, since it's still early in the day and a little bit of rain passed through not long ago. If the weather holds, this will be bumper to bumper with classic cruisers this evening.
